Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Michigan
Alejandra Arango, Ph.D., is a clinical child psychologist and clinical assistant professor in the department of Psychiatry at Michigan Medicine. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Science from the University of Michigan, completed her pre-doctoral internship in Integrated Behavioral Health at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, and her postdoctoral fellowship in Child Clinical Psychology at Michigan Medicine.
Her scholarly focus is on reducing youth suicide risk through programmatic research, the implementation of evidence-based interventions, and multidisciplinary training and education. Dr. Arango’s research centers on better understanding effective prevention and intervention strategies for youth at elevated risk for suicide, as well as the implementation of these approaches. She is particularly interested in approaches that increase social support and connectedness, and that include caregivers as critical support persons for youth at risk. Clinically, she provides bilingual services and specializes in the care of youth presenting with depression, anxiety, psychosis, and trauma, for whom suicide prevention-specific interventions are a core component of treatment.
Dr. Arango was the recipient of the 2025 Todd Ouida Clinical Scholars Award for her project entitled Development of a Youth Depression and Suicide Prevention (YDSP) Specialty Clinic.
